Are Zara Clothes Manufactured in India? Where Zara Clothing Is Made in 2026

Are Zara clothes manufactured in India? Yes, in part. Zara is the flagship brand of the Inditex group, and Inditex lists India among the ten supply-chain clusters that make its garments, alongside Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Morocco, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, and China. This guide shows where Zara clothes are manufactured, using Inditex’s latest annual-report data, explains what India’s role is, shares what we saw when we visited Inditex’s head office, and sets out what the Zara model means for brands choosing manufacturers.

The short answer: Zara’s factories are spread across 49 countries. In 2025 Inditex worked with 6,684 factories, 4,133 of them in Asia, and about 38% of its production came from nearby Europe and North Africa. India is a long-standing cluster, strongest in women’s clothing and cotton knitwear. Inditex does not publish a Zara-only split by country, so any exact “Zara India percentage” you see online is an estimate.

Are Zara Clothes Manufactured in India? Manufacturing in India

Zara does source garments from India. India’s strengths for fashion retailers are skilled labour, a deep textile base, and flexibility across women’s wear, knitwear, and embellished styles. In its 2018 report, Inditex counted more than one hundred suppliers in India employing about 275,000 workers, and India is still one of its named clusters. All factories making Inditex products must pass the group’s compliance and audit programme, so Indian suppliers work to the same standards as those in Spain or Turkey.

Portugal Nearby production of premium and quick-response garments
Turkey The biggest nearby hub: trend items needing fast replenishment into Europe
Morocco Fast fashion with quick shipping access to Europe

Bangladesh Large-scale knitwear and woven basics
Pakistan Cotton, denim, and basics
China Wide range, technical and complex garments, scale
Vietnam Knitwear, outerwear, and sportswear

Scale of Zara’s Global Supply Chain: The Latest Numbers

According to Inditex’s 2025 annual report, the group worked with 6,684 factories in 49 countries, compared with 6,615 factories in 50 countries in 2024. Asia is the main production hub, with 4,133 factories. Nearby production, meaning Europe and North Africa led by Morocco, fell to about 37.7% of the total in 2025, nearly four points lower than a year earlier, while far-away production in Asia and the Americas rose to about 62.3% from 58.4%. Non-EU Europe, led by Turkey, was the second-largest source with 1,161 factories, or 17.4% of the total, down from 1,302 the year before. The direction is clear: even the most proximity-driven fashion group is moving more volume to Asia.

Our Experience: Visiting Inditex’s Head Office

We have seen Zara’s sourcing model first-hand. We visited Inditex’s head office near A Coruña for an appointment and met Zara’s buyers to explore supplying them. Unfortunately, their payment terms did not match ours, so no order followed. The visit still taught us how a group of that size works: buyers focus on agility and fixed commercial terms, and a supplier has to be comfortable with those terms before investing in capacity. Brands of every size face the same question when choosing a supplier for any large brand: the factory’s quality is only half of the decision, and the commercial fit is the other half. Our guide to clothing manufacturers for big brands explains how large retailers work with factories.

What Zara Clothing Manufacturers Mean for Your Brand

For a growing fashion brand, the lesson from Zara is to split production by product: nearby factories for fast, trend-led styles, and large clusters such as Tirupur for planned cotton basics. European brands can see our guides to clothing manufacturers in Spain for the nearby option, and to the best country to import clothes for the Asian ones. With the India-EU trade agreement expected to bring zero duty on Indian garments into the EU from early 2027, the case for Indian cotton knitwear in European ranges is getting stronger.

Our recommendation

Copy Zara’s approach, not its brand: use nearby factories for trend-led styles, an Asian cluster for planned volume, and match each product to the country that does it best. Check commercial terms, payment, and compliance before you commit, and approve a production sample first.
